What makes the Adelaide Central Market so special?
The Adelaide Central Market is one of the largest undercover markets in the Southern Hemisphere. With passionate traders working around the clock to bring the market to life, it remains as Adelaide’s leading food destination for multicultural cuisines and fresh produce.
With a range of fresh food, meat and poultry, seafood, cheeses, baked goods, smallgoods, and several cafés and eateries, it’s no surprise the market attractions over 9 million visitors every year. Centrally located in the CBD, the market is easily accessible on foot from anywhere in the city.

1. Lucia's Fine Foods

A South Australian icon, Lucia’s has been serving traditional Italian food for the past six decades. Founded by the late Lucia Rosella, the pizza and spaghetti bar opened in 1957 in the Adelaide Central Market. These days Lucia’s two daughters, Nicci and Maria are the brains behind the business. They produce their pasta sauces inhouse during the summer months, harvesting local tomatoes and combining them with fresh basil, garlic and olive oil.

A visit to the market would not be complete without shopping Lucia’s famous sauces, olive oils, pastas, ready-made meals and more from Lucia’s Pizza & Spaghetti Bar. Whilst at the Adelaide Central Market, make sure to pop into their sister store, Charcuterie, serving up Adelaide’s favourite panini's.
2. Barossa Fine Foods
Barossa Fine Foods is Australia’s most awarded smallgoods producer and has called the markets home for over 30 years. The smallgoods shop has been owned and operated by the Knoll family since 1924. Sourcing some of the best free-range and sustainably farmed fresh meats from farmers in the Barossa and regional South Australia, the Knoll family have drawn on their German heritage to handcraft the finest smallgoods and charcuterie. The company has grown significantly over the years with eight retail outlets, a national distribution network and a smallgoods factory. Show your support for this family run business, employing over 300 South Australians by shopping their stall, that is open every market day.
3. The Kangaroo Island Stall

The Kangaroo Island stall is a one stop shop on the mainland that fully represents the island. It stocks a comprehensive range of KI produce, spirits, wine, health and beauty products, all in one convenient, central location.
Buying direct from each producer, the stall knows how important it is to know where your produce comes from, which is why they employ many locals who bring a wealth of product knowledge. Visit stall 17 and sample their specialty gin cocktails, local wines, beers and ciders.
4. The Smelly Cheese Co

The Smelly Cheese Co is South Australia’s premier artisanal cheese specialist. The Smelly Cheese Shop travel all over the world to source cheese that the public may have never had access to before. As well as sourcing internationally, they also buy direct from cheese makers Australia wide. Founded in 2001 by Valerie Henbest who was born in Normandy, France, her shop boasts cheese that is unique and delicious. Visit the friendly team for all your cheese needs.
