Dubrovnik is a favoured location for travellers worldwide and it’s no surprise why. With its ancient city walls, ramparts and bastions, its red terracotta roof tiles that contrast with the azure Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik is an incredible and beautiful city. The well-preserved Old Town dates back to the 7th century and walking through the streets of the walled city feels like a dream. Here’s how to spend a summer’s day in the fascinating Old Town.

Walk the streets

Begin the day walking the streets of the Old Town. Enter Pile Gate and meander through the streets, passing by the likes of the Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s column, Sponza Palace, the Dominican Monastery, and so much more. Make sure your camera is charged, around every corner there is something you’ll want to photograph in this magnificent piece of history! You’ll also want a water bottle in hand; the town has an abundance of freshwater fountains dotted around its streets, perfect for keeping you hydrated while you explore!

Discover the food

You are inundated with choice when it comes to food in the Old Town. From the bustling restaurants that line the town’s main street, to those tucked away in quaint pockets of the town, one thing is guaranteed – delicious and fresh food. Indulge in delicious seafood, meat, pizza and pasta, and make sure to always leave room for a post-meal gelati.

Explore the city walls

Climb the stairs to the city walls and walk around the entire circumference of the Old Town. Boasting incredible views over the terracotta red roofs of the town’s buildings and out over the Adriatic, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to a spectacular view! A walk along the walls is also like stepping back in time as you discover forts, towers, bastions and more.

Sip on drinks on the edge of a cliff

Tucked away behind an elusive door is one of the Old Town’s most popular cliff-side bars. Enjoy sunset at the bar that is built into the cliff and looks out onto the Adriatic. Walk down the stairs and watch the brave swimmers as they jump from the cliffs edge and into the azure waters below or grab a seat, enjoy a drink and watch as boats, jet skis and kayaks pass by.
