Some responded that they prefer not to listen to music while travelling to more fully engage with their surrounds and we can see their point. However, sometimes we want to block out the noise of the snoring passenger on the plane or sit back and watch the countryside roll by from our spot on the train listening to our favourite tunes.
Here are some of their responses for what music to travel by.
On the streets of the Coffee Triangle, Colombia
Our travel consultants are listening to...
This list could go on an on. Our Retail Manager, Dave Hammett, says he generally starts the flight with hip hop – Dr Dre, Kendrick Lamar, NWA and then moves into more relaxed stuff like Phil Collins, Elton John and Frank Sinatra.
Other consultants listed Eurovision, a mix of music 80s pop, 90s R&B, chillout music to relax and unwind, Jack Johnson, Arcade Fire, David Bowie, Vampire Weekend and Ben Harper as their choices of music to travel by.
Music on the beach in Cartagena, Colombia
From our Product team
These guys weren’t picky either, not listening to music at all or happy listening to any rock, Norah Jones or Simply Red. The team assured us that even if you don’t pack an ipod you’re sure to hear Bob Marley on any beach – be it South or Central America, Africa or Asia.
Accompanying dinner in Dubrovnik, Croatia
Our Senior Management team
U2 and Bob Dylan are on repeat for Sacha Bunnik – no question there. Our General Manager for Sales & Marketing, Kevin Bishop, listed Mogwai, Bon Iver and anything new and instrumental.
Musicians in Bogota, Colombia
Some excellent taste from our Marketing Department (NKOTB?!)
On our marketing team’s list of music to travel by were tech podcasts (this response was from our digital guru), NKOTB greatest hits on loop from our graphic designer to a very mixed bag of music from Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Death Cab for Cutie, the Shins to pop and world music.
Wind pipes in Cotacachi, Ecuador
The Operations team like to relax
With a bit of Ray Charles, Sia, JT and Adele. Really anything that takes their fancy and creates the mood they are seeking – be that relaxation, staying awake, to help pass the time when tired of reading or having exhausted the airline’s movie lists!
